I'm having a small issue with firefox. Whenever I try to go to a youtube link from Facebook it asks me if I want to allow the link. But sometimes, that dialogue doesn't show up and it'l just keep showing the link and then take me back to Facebook. How do I disable this? Also, how do i get rid of the tool bar in search and Bing? What is bing anyway? Is it useful or not? I know it installed when I installed something else but forget what.
Bing is a tool bar. Tool bars are sometimes difficult to use depending. Go to add and remove programs and uninstall it. In firefox go to your add ons and uncheck it. If you need more direction say and I'll post a b c like that steps.
I tried both and Bing didn't show up in either case. I remember the software now. It was Microsoft Essentials. at least, I'm pretty sure that's what it was, but I didn't wind up using that. I wound up using AVG. Something about the Microsoft product was inaccessible but it's too late for me to think. lol In any case, it didn't show up. Also, how do I fix that dialogue so it'll play youtube links when I click on them from Facebook?
i've installed that, no bing toolbar of any sort.
Hmm, maybe it wasn't that then. Perhaps, it was AVG? I don't remember but I didn't download too many new things. Whatever it was also said that it would uninstall it, since it's not compatible with firefox or Firefox has it built-in or something. It was a few weeks ago so I don't remember exactly.
It's compatible with firfox the bing toolbar. For blind people they just kind of get in the way, but the toolbar is not keeping you from the things you want. Do you have Flash player, Firefox has a learning curve, but you have to go to the add on page and add the tings you need. Read the hile for internet explorer users, or if it doesn't work simply use IE. Their are to many things that might be missing when I thought about it. I can tell you how to get to the places to learn, but have no idea what you have or don't have installed. Read the Firefox help sections.
I hate IE after 6 so that's not happening any time soon. I do have Flash Player, since I can view youtube videos. I don't really do anything advanced so can't think of anything that's missing. I just wish that it would stop giving me that dialogue and, on other pages, showing me things like a tree view of something and my bookmarks, which I haven't even added to yet. I just want tab and shift tab to take me to the next and previous links.
Well if you are using tab and shift tab I'm not sure. I installed a new setup of Firefox today and here is what I think may help.
Start over. Delete it and reinstall it. Make sure you get rid of any settings. Okay now we have a fresh install right? Next before you do anything go to tools then options. Under general you'll find settings that might help your browsing. Also go through all the options and decide what you want. I saw one that has a check box to open the tab emediatly, so maybe check it. After you have set it up like you want for options the bing or any issues are gone now. Google will be the default search. Also if you have the google tool bar anyplace on your computer, or any tool bar for that matter ditch it! I find these more trouble then they are worth to me. On my install I only had 2 add ons Java and Microsoft's dot net framer. Look in the add ons and disable any you don't like. The 2 I have are needed, so keep them. Try changing the setting that says tabs by unchecking it or checking it. It is checked by default and I left it so. Last when clicking a link if it doesn't go right away I use my applications key and arrow to refresh. Clicking twice on a link also opens it.
Let me know if any of this helps.
Peace.
Is it just me or has Firefox gotten less stable these last few versions? I used to love it but these days I'm noticing it crashes a lot more than it ever used to. And sometimes, usually on sites like Youtube, when I hit Enter to turn of WIndow-Eyes' Browse Mode so I can enter text in a form, it refreshes the page sometimes as I'm typing and turns Browse Mode back on. Sometimes Firefox even crashes during this process. Needless to say it's got me more than a little annoyed.
I'm still using firefox, and if anything it's gotten more stable for me compared to some of the earlier versions. remember, sometimes it's sites that cause the problems, not firefox itself. also it depends on what you have for addins, what software your computer has that kind of thing
I'll try the suggestion of uninstalling and reinstalling. As for settings, how do I insure that I get rid of all of them? wouldn't they just go away when I remove the program? and how do I find any tool bars so that I can get rid of them?
Well, I uninstalled it and when I reinstalled it, it brought me to my usual homepage that I'd set and then, when I came here, I was able to navigate by visited links. so I have no idea what happened. Anyway, the version that I had previously was the same as this one. I'll check in the menus and see what I can change.
I'm with Rat, its gotten stable for me, and I've had no problems.
Just uninstalling it doesn't delete your settings. It leaves behind a folder in Program Files that saves all your previous settings. If you want a clean install, you'll have to go and delete that too.
Also as a note for Jaws users version 11 updated today, so has fixes for Fire Fox, so update and see if that helps. Computer settings are different for everyone, but I find with a clean install it is stable.
Dez, that's not entirely right. The program files one is their, but you need to go in to %appdata% and delete the one found their too. That would be C:users<username>application data for you XP users and C:users<your username>appdataroaming for the 7 users. Once inside that directory, find and delete the folder called Mozilla.
Ok, apparently the zone doesn't want to take backslashes. Fine then, We'll do it this way.
XP: C: backslash users backslash <Your username> backslash application data backslash
7 and possibly vista users: C: backslash users backslash <your username> backslash appdata backslash roaming.
Find and delete the folder called Mozilla.
Thanks. I thought that application data was a folder created by JFW. ah well, in any case, I'll delete all that stuff if I choose to reinstall. I've unchecked a few options and maybe that'll help solve my problem.
That is a clean install. It will solve your issues providing the screen reader you use is not at fault. I don't know enough about it, but with Jaws and Win Eyes if you do as we suggest Fire Fox works nicely.
it should work with nVDA too. Thanks guys.
Cool! Due to all the complaints I am posting this with that..... program hahaha. Did it post?
Hopefully your problem's been solved, but in future if you want to remove nasty toolbars, head on up to the view menu (alt+v). Bookmarks also have an obnoxious tree view that's open by default; if you check out the bookmark settings you can probably get that collapsed. I did it a long time ago and navigate mainly with the keyboard, so thankfully I don't have to worry about tabbing around. In general you should only hit those toolbars if you try to tab from the end of a page or shift tab from the top.
Thanks so much to all of you. I'm very happy to report that I completely uninstalled everything this time, and since I've reinstalled it, it's been working beautifully. I'm so glad that's fixed.
Fire Fox wins again. hahaha
Yeah, it really is an awesome browser. It's far better than the new crappy versions of IE.
